The Sea Life London Aquarium, with more than 500 various species is London’s and Europe’s largest collection of aquatic creatures.  With over a million visitors a year it is one of the capital’s top attractions and is especially popular with kids.  It is perfectly situated on the ground floor of the County Hall, right next to the famous London Eye.  The aquarium which first opened in March 1997 reopened in April 2009 after months of major refurbishments at a total cost of £5 million under the precise supervision of architect Kay Elliott.

With more than 2 million litres of water and thousands of sea creatures, it is not surprising that the aquarium host Europe’s largest collections of global marine life. It has 14 beautifully designed themed zones spread over three different floors and includes specific sharks, penguins and creatures of the deep sections.

Since it reopened, after being purchased by Merlin Entertainments, the world’s second-largest attractions operator, the aquarium offers many new exciting sights such as the Pacific Ocean tank, the Shark Walk and the Penguins Ice Adventure.

Glass tunnel

The stunning glass tunnel is one of the aquarium’s favourite, submerging the guest into the heart of the Tropical Ocean.  This amazing underwater tunnel offers a spectacular view on a wide variety of sea life of various sizes and colours.

Sharks

If you want to see sharks up close, then you are at the right place.  Indeed the Sea Life London Aquarium has a total of 40 sharks within 12 different species. There is even a special “Shark walk” where the courageous can watch various species only couple of feets below them.

Penguins: Ice Adventure

Recently opened, the Penguins Ice Adventure is definitely worth a detour discovering those funny black and white creatures which are comfortable both on land and under water.  This theme room is the perfect way to experience and learn all there is on penguins.

Plants

The aquarium offers much more then only various fish species in huge tanks, with over 30 species of plants and foliage in 65 various displays.
