Crouch End is a beautiful little district  in the north  of London offering an original Victorian architecture on tree-lined streets.  It is packed with a variety of cafes, restaurants and independent shops as well as plenty of green spaces to relax and have fun with the kids.  It has the spectacular Alexander Palace as the backdrop as well as very interesting architecture at its heart including the Clock Tower and the art deco Town Hall.   Crouch End is definitely worth discovering if it’s not already on your best London destinations.

About Crouch End

Crouch End is a beautiful district in the heart of North London.  It is situated in the heart of the London’s Borough of Haringey with Turnpike Lane to the East, Finsbury Park and Archway to the South , Highgate to the west and Muswell Hill and Wood Green station to the north.  It is surrounded with many green spaces  ideal for walks or sports including the Priory Park at its heart, Alexandra Park with amazing views on Central London to the North and Finsbury Park further South.  Crouch End is also home to various woods including the Queen’s and Highgate Wood located on the West side.

In terms of transport the nearest tube stations are Turnpike Lane, Finsbury Park, Highgate and Archway. The nearest railway stations include Hornsey, Harringay, Finsbury Park and Crouch Hill.  As for the bus services, the lines W3, W5, W7, 41 and 91 operates through Crouch End.

In terms of its local facilities,  Crouch End  has plenty to offer and makes it an interesting place to live.  Indeed it is home to the Whittington hospital, offers plenty of quality schools to choose from and has a good supply of doctors and dentists.

Finally, Crouch End is perhaps mostly know for being the background for various films and TV programmes including the excellent Zombie parody movie Shaun of the Dead.

Hornsey Town Hall

The Hornsey Town Hall is perhaps the most recognised building in Crouch End.  With its art deco architecture it was used many times over in the famous BBC soap Eastenders.

Red  Brick Clock Tower

The Red  Brick Clock Tower located in the heart of Crouch End was build in 1895 to commemorate Henry Reader Williams for his commitment to the community for over 20 years.

Hornsey Parish Church tower

The Hornsey Parish Church tower is the only remaining part of the St. Mary’s Church and it is said to be the oldest building in Haringey.

Hornsey Art School

The Hornsey Art School was first established in 1880 and was made famous during the known protests of May 1968.  More recently the building has been  converted to the Coleridge Primary School.

Crouch End Library

The spacious Crouch End Library situated just behind the Hornsey Town Hall is an ideal place to browse a variety of books, magazines and films.  It is also home to an art gallery and a cafe shop, making it an ideal place to take a break.

Crouch End Food, drinks and Shopping

Crouch End is best known for its cafe culture, with plenty of great locations to enjoy a coffee, a drink or a nice meal.   Most of those delights are situated on the central Broadway, but don’t be afraid to adventure yourself in the smaller hidden streets where plenty of surprise awaits.
In terms o shopping, Crouch End offers a wide array of independent shops from bookstores, to exclusive clothing, passing by beautiful handmade jewellery.  It is also blessed with many  services oriented business from children’s party organiser to massage therapists.
